Year 5/6 Teacher (Maternity Cover)
Sunderland | January 2027 Start | Competitive Daily Rate
A welcoming and supportive primary school in Sunderland is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Year 5/6 Teacher to join their team from January 2027 on a maternity cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate Key Stage 2 practitioner to make a positive impact during a crucial stage of pupils' primary education. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of upper KS2 expectations and be confident in preparing pupils for their Year 6 SATs while delivering engaging and inspiring lessons that promote a love of learning. The Role:
- Plan and deliver high-quality lessons for a mixed Year 5/6 class.
- Prepare Year 6 pupils effectively for SATs assessments while maintaining a broad and engaging curriculum.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress to ensure all learners reach their potential.
- Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those requiring additional support.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and senior leaders to provide the best outcomes for pupils.
- Contribute positively to the wider school community.
Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Recent experience teaching within Key Stage 2.
- Strong knowledge of the Year 6 curriculum and SATs preparation.
- Experience delivering interventions and strategies to raise attainment.
- Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
- A commitment to achieving high standards and inspiring pupils to succeed.
- The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
