Unqualified Teaching Assistant
Location: Wavertree, Liverpool, L15
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only (39 weeks per year)
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £13.75 per hour

The Role

The school is seeking to appoint an Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join their supportive and dynamic team. Working under the direction of qualified teaching staff, the successful candidate will contribute to improving pupil attainment and supporting the social, emotional, and educational development of all learners. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about working with children and exploring a future in education.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher with day-to-day classroom activities, including:
    • Assisting in the planning and delivery of engaging learning tasks
    • Supporting individual pupils or small groups, particularly those with additional needs
    • Preparing classroom resources, displays, and teaching materials
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support harmonious interactions among pupils
  • Supervise pupils during break and lunch times as required
  • Provide support in core subjects such as reading, writing, and numeracy
  • Undertake general administrative duties (e.g., photocopying, filing, maintaining records)
  • Help develop pupils’ social skills and model positive behaviour and attitudes
  • Offer general pastoral care, including basic first aid (training will be provided)

Person Specification

Essential:

  • A genuine enthusiasm for working with children and young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively within a team
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (minimum GCSE Grade 4/C in English and Maths or equivalent)
  • Willingness to receive and act on feedback (full training will be provided)
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, and a consistently positive attitude

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with children in any capacity (e.g., nursery, holiday club, youth work)
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
