Job description

Teaching Assistant

Location: Bridgend

Contract: Full time/ Part time

Start date: ASAP

Salary: £89.38 per day

Are you someone who thrives on making a difference—especially where it matters most? We’re looking for compassionate, resilient, and proactive individuals to join a specialist education setting in the Bridgend area as a Teaching Assistant.

This is more than a classroom role. It’s a chance to support young people with a wide range of additional learning needs, including social, emotional, behavioural, and communication challenges. Every day brings new opportunities to empower students, build trust, and help them achieve their potential in a nurturing and structured environment.

About the Provision:

This is a well-established, inclusive school that supports learners aged 8–19 with complex needs. Pupils may experience:

  • Social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties (SEBD/SEMH)
  • Autism spectrum conditions (ASC)
  • Communication and interaction needs
  • Attachment-related challenges and trauma-informed support requirements
  • Barriers to learning that require a highly individualised approach

What We’re Looking For:

We’re not just hiring experience—we’re hiring character. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Emotionally intelligent – able to remain calm, patient, and supportive in challenging situations
  • Adaptable – quick to adjust to different learners’ needs and communication styles
  • Resilient – able to maintain a positive, consistent presence even when the day gets tough
  • Empowering – focused on helping pupils build confidence, independence, and self-worth
  • Team-oriented – ready to collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Committed – passionate about inclusion, safeguarding, and long-term impact

Experience working with children or young people with additional needs is desirable, but not essential—we value transferable skills from care, youth work, sports coaching, and other people-focused roles.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups across a range of subjects and activities
  • Helping to implement personalised learning plans and behaviour strategies
  • Encouraging emotional regulation, social interaction, and communication
  • Assisting with sensory-based or therapeutic activities
  • Contributing to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
