Job description

1:1 Tutor – Chorlton (M21)
Support children outside of the classroom in a role that truly makes a difference.

Are you an experienced educator looking for a more flexible and rewarding way to work? We’re looking for patient, understanding tutors to support children and young people in the Chorlton (M21) area who are currently not in mainstream education.

The tuition is delivered one-to-one, either in the pupil’s home or in a local, quiet setting such as a library. These pupils may be out of school for various reasons – medical needs, anxiety, behavioural difficulties, or gaps in their education – and your input could be the key to helping them re-engage with learning.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to work more personally with pupils, focusing on building trust and confidence as well as academic progress.

What the role involves:

  • Supporting pupils with core subjects, typically English and Maths (other subjects may also be requested)

  • Planning and delivering short, personalised sessions based on the pupil’s ability and learning needs

  • Working with learners aged 5–16, often at a primary level even if the child is older

  • Adapting your approach to suit a range of needs, including SEND or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges

  • Keeping brief but clear records of progress to share with parents and professionals

Who we're looking for:

This opportunity would suit a qualified teacher, experienced tutor, or support staff with a strong background in education. You don’t necessarily need QTS, but experience working with children and delivering educational support is essential.

We’d particularly like to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience supporting children with additional needs or those who have missed time in school

  • Are confident working one-to-one with pupils who may have anxiety or low confidence

  • Can plan and deliver tailored sessions with creativity and sensitivity

  • Are happy to travel within the Chorlton area for in-person sessions

  • Hold (or are willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS on the update service

What you’ll get:

  • Hourly pay between £25 and £30, depending on experience

  • Flexible working hours between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday

  • A dedicated consultant to support you with placements

  • Access to ongoing professional development if desired

  • The opportunity to make a tangible impact on a pupil’s progress and wellbeing

  • Weekly pay through PAYE – no admin fees

If you’re ready to take on a rewarding new role in education, apply now with your CV and we’ll be in touch to discuss next steps.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
