Trainee Teaching Assistant

We are currently welcoming applications for Trainee Teaching Assistant positions across primary and secondary schools in the Wigan area, with immediate starts available.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain paid experience in education whilst being able to complete key CPD such as Thrive Training and out Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification which you can complete alongside your work placement. Whether you’re exploring a career in teaching, SEND support, pastoral care, or educational psychology or just feel you could contribute in local schools this a great starting point.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and classroom activities.
- Working 1:1 or with small groups of pupils who need extra support.
- Assisting with lesson preparation, classroom displays, and learning resources.
- Helping monitor pupil progress and promoting positive behaviour.
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment for all pupils.
Training & Development
While working in one of our partner schools, you’ll have the opportunity to complete a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (contact the team for further information)

- Team Teach
- Thrive Training - Behaviour management and SEN experience
- Cover Supervisor Training - School Inductions included
You’ll also receive ongoing mentoring and development to help you build confidence and progress in your career.
We’re Looking For
- Energetic, caring, and enthusiastic individuals who want to support children’s learning and wellbeing.
- Great communicators who enjoy working as part of a team.
- Reliable, organised, and eager to learn new skills.
- No formal school experience is required — just the right attitude and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working or volunteering with children or young people.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
