All students have a statement of special educational needs that include reference to the autistic spectrum. Students have a very wide range of cognitive ability. Many have additional needs and a high proportion present with extremely challenging behaviours on entry to the school.
The school wants their learners to achieve the best possible outcomes whatever the extent of their autism or learning difficulties. Teaching staff work closely with specialist speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists to recognise potential, enable learning and ultimately maximise independence.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting pupils carry out work and programmes set by teaching staff
- Helping with school events, trips and activities
- Assisting children who need extra support to complete tasks
- Supervising group activities
- Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities
The right candidate for this position will need to be flexible, patient and confident about working with young children and be pro-active in supporting and engaging pupils in the classroom. You will possess the ability to get on with children and other adults - a sense of humor is an asset!
