Teaching Assistant - Year 2
Job description
We are seeking a caring, motivated and enthusiastic General Teaching Assistant / SEN Teaching Assistant to join our school in Darlington. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and the SENCo to support pupils’ learning and development, both in class and through small group or one-to-one support.

Main Responsibilities

Provide in-class support to pupils, helping them to access learning activities and develop confidence and independence.

Deliver tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), following individual learning plans and adapting resources where needed.

Promote positive behaviour, inclusion and social interaction among all pupils.

Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCo and other staff to ensure pupils’ needs are met effectively.

Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of learning materials, and supervision during breaks or school trips.

Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to planning discussions.

Support the emotional, social and physical well-being of pupils at all times.

Understanding of (or willing to learn about) a range of special educational needs and classroom strategies.
Relevant experience in a school setting or with children with additional needs is desirable, but training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
Requirements

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Teaching Assistant qualifications.

Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).

Previous experience in an educational or childcare setting (preferred but not essential).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
