Teaching assistant - Walthamstow

Job description

A special needs school in Walthamstow are currently looking for a teaching assistant who shows real drive and real passion for working with children with autism in KS3. The school are looking for an individual who is proactive and is able to use their own initiative when supporting children with autism.

As a teaching assistant your role will be to provide additional support for high functioning autistic pupils in a KS3 class with students who also display challenging forms of behaviour as part of their condition. Previous experience in a SEN school or youth work/support worker role will be beneficial to your performance in securing this role.

Ideal attributes:

  • Minimum 3 months experience supporting young adults with autism and challenging behaviour
  • Previously worked in a SEN school/Youth work background
  • Relevant training: autism awareness, team teach, safeguarding, PECS, Makaton
  • Passion for working in education supporting SEN students
