A Special School in Kirklees are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant on a full time basis this September.
As part of a multi-academy trust, the school caters for pupils with severe and complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), in Key Stages 2-4.
Teaching Assistants in school play an important role in delivering literacy, numeracy and personal development interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will be required to establish good relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model, responding appropriately to individual needs. You will be confident attending to pupils' needs, implementing personal development programmes which focus on social, health, physical and welfare matters in addition to academic achievement.
Key Duties:
- Work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff delivering 1:1 and small group interventions in literacy, numeracy and personal development that support pupil progress
- Prepare relevant resources
- Be flexible in response to need across every key stage
- Work with the teacher to ensure that progress is clearly recorded
- Develop knowledge, skills and understanding of requirements for effective support in an SEN, SEMH setting and utilise these to provide appropriate support for pupils
You will be working with young people at risk of reaching crisis, who may display challenging behaviours and can be physically or verbally aggressive towards peers and staff members. Therefore, you may also be required to deal with pupils who require physical intervention, using such methods as Team Teach, under the direction of the Head Teacher.
