Secondary Teaching Assistant - Brighton
An opportunity has arisen for a Secondary Teaching Assistant role at a school in Brighton to work in a range of key stage 4 classes from September 2019.
The school have created an engaging and reflective school culture upon five key values and skills; achievement, leadership, collaboration, learning and social responsibility. This large Brighton School have recently achieved an “good” in their most recent Ofsted inspection, and are looking to maintain a high standard of learning by expanding their team in an already well resourced and professional environment. The school are a locally popular school that are proud of what their pupils achieve, with GCSE students for the summer 2019 receiving results on average a third grade higher than national expectations.
The appropriate candidate will be enthusiastic in their approach and will seek to inspire and provide the opportunity for students to achieve their full potential, both academically and socially. The school are looking for the candidate to provide the class teacher support in the performance of their general duties. The candidate will possess qualities of a calm, resilient disposition and will be able to respond positively to the challenges of working with secondary school students.
The position is:
- Hours: 27.5 hours a week
- Wage/Salary: GBP60-GBP70 per day
- Long term - starting immediately on an ongoing basis

Working as a teaching assistant you will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Supporting schoolwork under the supervision of the teacher
- Preparing learning resources
- Providing feedback and assistance to teachers
- Completing records and reviewing students progress
If you have any of the below this could be the role for you...
- Experience of working with children either inside or outside of a school setting
- A strong desire to help children achieve their potential
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ level 3 or degree in education
- Ambition to grow and progress with education
YOUR LONG TERM PROSPECTS
- With experience you may be able to progress to a senior assistant job. You may be able to take on more responsibility by applying for training and assessment for Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) status
- When you are fully experienced as a secondary teaching assistant, you may be able to study for a foundation degree. These are offered by a number of colleges and universities
- After completing a foundation degree you might be able to progress to a related honours degree which could provide a route for qualifying as a secondary school teacher
