Job description

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (2:1 Tuition Support) – Year 9 Pupil with EHCP

Location: Local library, YO26
Hours: 10 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
Rate of Pay: £18 per hour

About the Role:
We are seeking a compassionate and patient Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 2:1 support alongside a tutor for a Year 9 pupil with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The pupil is currently not attending mainstream education and will be working on age-appropriate English and Maths levels in a quiet community library setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the tutor delivering the daily tuition

  • Help with planned activities and offer additional support during breaks

  • Help breakdown tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks

  • Cheer on successes to build confidence and motivation

  • Assist with social wellbeing and PSHE learning, helping to develop social skills and relationships

EHCP Outcomes Focus:

  • Engage the pupil with literacy and maths activities to build learning confidence and measurable progress

  • Support social development by helping the pupil manage relationships and social boundaries to maintain and build friendships

Person Specification:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly those with EHCPs
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching approaches to individual needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with tutors and support staff
  • Commitment to supporting the pupil’s academic and social development

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
