Job description

Could You Be the Consistent Adult a Young Person Needs?

For some pupils, succeeding at school begins long before completing a piece of work. It starts with feeling understood, knowing what to expect and having trusted adults around them.

Teaching Personnel is looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant (ASC Support) to join a specialist education setting near Shaftesbury.

The school supports children and young people aged 5–19, including pupils with autism, SEMH and associated additional needs.

A Role Built Around the Individual

You will help pupils access education in a way that works for them.

This could include providing 1:1 assistance, breaking activities into manageable steps, supporting transitions, encouraging communication, helping with emotional regulation and creating predictability throughout the school day.

Alongside academic development, you will help pupils build:

  • Independence
  • Confidence
  • Communication and social skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Positive relationships
  • Engagement with learning

Is This You?

We are specifically seeking people with previous experience working with children or young people and ideally direct exposure to ASC/autism, SEND or SEMH.

You must be able to hit the ground running.

Great SEND support is not about taking over when a pupil struggles. It is about understanding when to step in, when to give space and how to gradually develop independence.

You will therefore need patience, emotional resilience, excellent communication and a calm manner. Flexibility is equally important because no two pupils, or days, will be identical.

Why Join Teaching Personnel?

  • A dedicated SEND consultant
  • Competitive weekly pay
  • SEND-focused training and CPD
  • Career development opportunities
  • Support from registration through to placement
  • A wide network of specialist settings
  • Refer-a-friend opportunities
