Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join our team at a special needs school, supporting remarkable young people who see the world in wonderfully different ways. This role is not about standing at the back of a classroom or handing out worksheets. It’s about connection, patience, creativity, and celebrating the small wins that mean everything.
Every day will look a little different. One moment you might be helping a student find the confidence to communicate their thoughts, the next you might be supporting a sensory activity, guiding learning through play, or simply being the calm, reassuring presence that helps a young person feel safe enough to try something new.
You don’t need to have all the answers — but you do need heart, resilience, and a belief that every child deserves to be understood and supported in the way that works for them.
What you'll be doing:
- Supporting pupils with a range of additional needs in their learning and development
- Working alongside teachers and therapists to create an inclusive, supportive environment
- Encouraging independence, confidence and communication
- Celebrating progress — whether it's a first word, a new skill, or a moment of bravery
What we’re looking for:
- Someone patient, compassionate and open-minded
- A team player who is happy to learn and adapt
- Experience with children or young people with SEND is essential
- A sense of humour and the ability to see potential where others might miss it
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
