Behaviour Support Assistant – Immediate Start | NP20, Newport

Location: NP20, Newport
Pay: From £92.63 per day
Hours: Full-Time | Monday to Friday
Start Date: ASAP

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a supportive primary school in the NP20 area of Newport to recruit a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team immediately.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils aged 3–11 who may display challenging behaviours or require additional emotional and behavioural support throughout the school day.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils engage with learning, regulate emotions, and build positive relationships both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping them remain engaged in lessons, manage behaviour positively, and access learning in a structured environment.

You may support pupils with:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD and attention difficulties
  • Trauma-related behaviours / emotional dysregulation

Trial days may be required to ensure the role is the right fit for both candidate and school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils during lessons to maintain focus and engagement
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils requiring additional support
  • Supervise and support pupils during breaktimes and lunch periods
  • Encourage participation in outdoor and sensory-based activities
  • Work closely with teaching staff and SENCO to support behaviour plans

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Calm, patient, and resilient under pressure
  • Experienced managing challenging behaviour in education, care, youth work, or similar settings
  • Passionate about supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and development
  • Confident building professional relationships with pupils who require consistency and trust
  • Adaptable and proactive in a fast-paced school environment

Essential Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • EWC Registration

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in the NP19 area of Newport is looking to appoint a caring and committed Early Years Teaching Assistant to support children within Nursery and Reception, including pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

About the Role

Working within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), you will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils engage in learning through structured play, routines, and positive reinforcement.

You may support children with:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
  • Developmental delays and sensory processing needs

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils during classroom-based and play-led activities
  • Assist with implementing IDPs/EHCPs
  • Promote communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Use visual, sensory, and play-based learning strategies
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt resources

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, nurturing, and dependable
  • Experienced in childcare, education, or ALN settings (personal experience welcomed)
  • Familiar with EYFS principles and early years learning strategies
  • Confident supporting children with a variety of additional needs

Essential Requirements

  • EWC Registration
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Two recent references from within the last 24 months
