Have you recently graduated with a psychology degree and are looking to start a career in the education sector?

Teaching personnel are currently working with SEMH secondary schools in Manchester that are looking for teaching assistants. The students within these schools will be KS3 and KS4 and are currently out of mainstream schooling due to various social, emotional and mental health qualifications. The majority of the children will display challenging behaviour, and will require extra support to ensure they are progressing at the expected rate and are focused on their work within lessons.

As a teaching assistant, you will

-        Provide in lesson support for students either on a 1:1 basis or with a small group

-        Provide teacher with support to ensure that lessons are able to go ahead as planned and students can learn in a positive environment

-        Ensure that challenging behaviour is dealt with in a professional way and situations are de-escalated as needed

-        Give appropriate feedback to teachers and parents in line with EHCPs

-        Help teachers with classroom set up and the distribution of any materials needed for classes

For this role you should

-        Have recently graduated with a psychology degree

-        Have some experience working with young people, preferably in a school setting but this is not necessary

-        Be confident and calm when dealing with possibly challenging behaviour

-        Be available full-time

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
