Teaching Assistant
Job description
Teaching Assistants – September Start (Primary & Year 7-11 sites)
Location: New Forest Area | Full-Time | Paid to Scale (Based on Experience)
A specialist provision in the New Forest area is seeking dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to join their supportive team from September. These full-time roles are available across a couple of sites, working closely with children with complex needs in both primary (Key Stage 2) and secondary (Year 7 transition to year 11) settings.
The pupils supported have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) alongside Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some children may display challenging behaviour, so successful candidates will need patience, adaptability, and strong behaviour management skills. Teaching Assistants will play a key role in providing consistent support, helping to create structured and nurturing environments where pupils can learn and thrive.
Each site has particular needs:
- One site focuses on upper primary pupils, supporting their learning and social development in preparation for secondary transition.
- The other site supports 11-17 students who may be adjusting to specialist provision, requiring support with academic tasks, social skills, and emotional wellbeing.
The school values Teaching Assistants who work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to meet the individual needs of each pupil. Candidates should be proactive, reflective, and committed to fostering inclusion and positive outcomes.
Essential:
- Experience supporting children with ASC and/or SEMH
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations
- Willingness to commit to full-time work and be a consistent presence for pupils
Desirable:
- Experience in specialist or alternative education settings
- Knowledge of therapeutic or trauma-informed approaches
- Confidence supporting transitions and social development
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people with additional needs. The school offers a supportive environment, professional development opportunities, and the chance to be part of a passionate, committed team.
