Job description

Teaching Assistant – Special Needs (Primary, Ages 4–11)

Long‑term / full‑time opportunity in a well‑resourced specialist setting

Are you patient, nurturing, and passionate about helping children with additional needs thrive? We’re working with a fantastic specialist primary setting that supports pupils aged 4–11 with moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs. They offer a warm, structured and highly collaborative environment where every child is supported to communicate, grow and achieve.

 

The Role

You will be part of a skilled, caring team providing tailored support for pupils with a range of needs including ASD, MLD, SLD and complex learning profiles.
Your day may include:

  • Supporting learning in small, structured classes
  • Using visual supports and communication systems such as Makaton and PECS (training can be provided)
  • Helping pupils regulate, communicate and build independence
  • Working closely with teachers and therapists to deliver personalised, differentiated activities
  • Promoting a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with SEN is helpful but not essential
  • A calm, caring approach and genuine enthusiasm for supporting vulnerable children
  • Good communication skills and a team‑player mentality
  • Reliability, patience, and a willingness to learn and adapt

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
