Job description

Teaching Assistant – SEN Education

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs to achieve their full potential?

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join a specialist education setting supporting young people aged 16–25 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The provision focuses on preparing students for adult life and supporting their transition into further education, training, and employment.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students develop their confidence, independence, and life skills within a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. You will build positive, professional relationships with students and work closely with teaching staff to support learning both in the classroom and within the wider community.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

  • Promoting independence, confidence, and positive outcomes

  • Assisting with the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation

  • Monitoring and recording student progress

  • Supporting safeguarding, health and safety, and student wellbeing at all times

  • Working flexibly both on and off site as required

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting young people with additional needs, SEMH, or challenging behaviour (desirable)

  • Be patient, resilient, and able to build positive relationships

  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Be committed to helping young people develop independence and life skills

  • Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle, as the setting is not accessible by public transport

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
