Teaching Assistant
Job description
Are you a qualified Learning Support Assistant (Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3) looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people? Do you have a passion for inclusion, wellbeing and educational support? A number of fantastic schools in Newcastle are seeking enthusiastic and reliable LSAs to join their teams this January. This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils with a variety of learning, social, emotional and behavioural needs in mainstream secondary schools.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to deliver personalised support for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), English as an Additional Language (EAL), or other barriers to learning.
Whether you’re supporting one-to-one, in small groups or across a class, your role will be to build trust, promote independence and help pupils access the curriculum confidently.
Key Responsibilities

Support pupils with a range of needs including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH and global delay

Deliver tailored interventions in literacy, numeracy, communication or behaviour

Work 1:1 or in small groups to reinforce classroom learning

Adapt tasks and scaffold instructions to make learning accessible

Encourage positive behaviour, self-esteem and resilience

Support with EHCP targets and contribute to pupil progress reviews

Use visual timetables, reward charts and sensory strategies when appropriate
Candidate Requirements
✔ Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification (CACHE, NCFE or equivalent)
✔ Experience working with children or young people in a school or educational setting
✔ A patient, calm and positive attitude
✔ Ability to follow teacher direction while also using initiative
Desirable Skills/Experience

Experience with SEND pupils or those with EHCPs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
