The Role

As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to support pupils with their learning and development.

You will provide support both within the classroom and through small-group activities, helping pupils engage with their learning and develop key skills across the curriculum. The role will involve supporting children's academic, social, emotional, and personal development, while encouraging confidence, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.

You will play an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging classroom environment where children feel supported and encouraged to succeed.

Responsibilities

• Support the teacher in delivering engaging and age-appropriate learning activities.
• Work with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning.
• Support children across the KS1 curriculum, including English and Maths.
• Help pupils develop their reading, writing, phonics, and numeracy skills.
• Encourage positive behaviour and good classroom routines.
• Support pupils with their confidence, independence, and social development.
• Prepare and organise classroom resources and learning materials.
• Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement throughout the school day.
• Help monitor pupil progress and share observations with the class teacher.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Support the teacher with classroom organisation and general learning activities.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

About You

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:

• Has experience working with children, ideally within a primary school setting.
• Has a good understanding of the needs of children in KS1.
• Is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to supporting children's development.
• Can confidently support pupils with their learning across the primary curriculum.
• Has a calm, nurturing, and adaptable approach.
• Is confident working with individuals and small groups.
• Works effectively as part of a team and communicates well with staff, pupils, and families.
• Has a genuine passion for working with young children.
• Is reliable, organised, and enthusiastic.
• Is available to commit to a full-time, long-term position.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration as a Teaching Assistant, or willingness to apply.
• An Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Previous experience working with children in a school, nursery, childcare, or similar setting is desirable.
