Location: Cardiff
Start Date: September 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £92.63 per day

The Role

As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support the learning and development of children within the Early Years Foundation Phase. You will help create a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.

The role will involve supporting children through a range of play-based and structured learning activities designed to develop communication, social, emotional, and early literacy and numeracy skills. You will also provide additional support to pupils who require extra assistance to ensure every child can thrive and reach their potential.

Working as part of a dedicated school team, you will contribute to a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, confidence, independence, and a love of learning from an early age.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of engaging and interactive Early Years learning activities.
  • Assist children with play-based learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors.
  • Help develop children's communication, language, literacy, and numeracy skills.
  • Support children's social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Provide tailored support for children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help establish classroom routines.
  • Observe and monitor children's progress, sharing feedback with the class teacher.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
  • Promote confidence, independence, and resilience in young learners.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.

About You

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Has experience working with young children in a Nursery, Reception, childcare, or school setting.
  • Is enthusiastic, patient, and passionate about supporting early years development.
  • Understands the importance of learning through play.
  • Can confidently support children with a range of needs and abilities.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates well with staff, pupils, and parents.
  • Has a nurturing and caring approach.
  • Is available to commit to a full-time, long-term position.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration as a Teaching Assistant, or willingness to apply.
  • An Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
