Job description

Are you looking to turn your experience to support children within a mainstream Primary School environment?

The SENCO of a reputable Primary School in Blackburn is keen to secure a Teaching Assistant qualified up to graduate level to support small groups of pupils across the school who require additional SEMH support. National Lockdowns has inevitably had a huge impact on children’s mental health and their learning. Senior Leaders in school are committed to ensuring each child receives the right level of support and have therefore created a new role in school to support and improve the mental health and wellbeing of individual children.

Senior Leaders are keen to secure a Psychology Graduate as they feel a candidate with expertise in this field would be a great addition to their pastoral and inclusion team. This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner who has experience of supporting children or vulnerable adults with their mental health. This is an excellent opportunity to support children across the school and bring new fresh ideas as to how we can support children with their mental health. The Headteacher has an ‘open door policy’ for staff to come forward with new ideas and she is committed to whole school improvement.

This role will begin from September 2023 with the view for the role to continue on a fixed term basis from May 2024. No two days are the same at this school and the role will be diverse and involve liaising with outside agencies, providing support to individual and small groups of children, liaising with class teachers regarding individual children and delivering 1:1 sessions both in the classroom and intervention classrooms. The successful candidate will report directly to the SENCO.

The ability to build excellent relationships with children and families is essential for this role. The successful applicant must be open minded and committed to inclusion and demonstrate a good understanding of each individual child’s needs. The applicant must be dynamic and resilient and be confident liaising with staff members at all levels. This is an excellent rewarding opportunity. The working hours will be 8:45-15:30 each day (some days hours may be slightly longer due to staff meetings).

To be considered for this role you must be qualified up to Degree level. Rates of pay are competitive for work of this nature and vary from £350-£400 per week.

This role is to start June 2023. To apply please click 'apply now' to be considered and we will contact you within 48 hours to discuss next steps.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
