Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Primary) – 1:1 Support

Location: Basildon, Essex
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Term-time only


About the Role:

We are seeking a caring, reliable, and flexible Teaching Assistant to provide consistent 1:1 support for a child within a nurturing primary school environment. The role will primarily focus on supporting one child to ensure stability and progress in their learning and development, while also being adaptable to assist more widely within the classroom as needed.

This position is ideal for someone who has a genuine passion for working with children, particularly those who may need additional emotional, social, or educational support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for a designated child, promoting engagement, confidence, and inclusion within the classroom.

  • Support the class teacher with the preparation and delivery of learning activities.

  • Foster positive relationships with the child, staff, and parents to ensure a consistent and supportive approach.

  • Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet the child’s individual needs.

  • Encourage social interaction, independence, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Assist in monitoring and recording the child’s progress and sharing updates with teaching staff.

  • Be flexible and willing to support across different classes or within both schools when required.

  • Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion policies at all times.


Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience working with or caring for children (e.g. in a school, nursery, or childcare setting).

  • A patient, compassionate, and adaptable approach.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Commitment to providing consistency, care, and encouragement to the child you support.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

  • Understanding of strategies to support children with additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, or equivalent).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
