Job Title: Teaching Assistant (16+ Severe Learning Difficulties)
Location: New Malden, Surrey
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time (Flexible options available)

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in New Malden supporting students aged 16+ with severe learning difficulties. This rewarding role requires patience, empathy, and a commitment to helping learners achieve their full potential in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with severe learning difficulties.

  • Assist with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and mobility support, as required.

  • Support the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.

  • Help students develop communication, life skills, and independence.

  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the teaching team.

Essential Requirements:

  • Valid Child & Adult DBS (or willingness to apply for one through Teaching Personnel).

  • Experience working with individuals with severe learning difficulties (preferred but not essential – training provided for the right candidate).

  • Willingness to assist with personal care (training provided).

  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.

Desirable Skills:

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching & Learning).

  • Experience in special educational needs (SEN) settings.

  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or Team Teach (advantageous but not essential).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
