Subject Leader of Computer Science for January!

If so, then you will not want to miss out on the opportunity to lead our client schools Computer Science department which is becoming available due to the relocation of their current post holder.

The school is a well-established co-educational Academy school, situated in the heart of the community of Buckinghamshire. The school have been graded "good" by Ofsted and are oversubscribed year on year; testimony to the quality of teaching and learning they provide. As one of the top performing schools in the area they take pride in getting the most out of each of their students. Last year 80% of their GCSE students achieved 5+ A*-C including English and Maths. Visitors comment on the excellent relationships that exist and that student behaviour is very good.


Computer Science at the School is taught to all students in Year 7 and 8, where they are taught the necessary programming skills through Scratch and Python. The number of students taking OCR GCSE Computer Science is approximately 50 students in each year group (Year 9-11) and continues to show a healthy uptake each year. The School also offers AQA A Level Computer Science and this is an area of increasing popularity. A Level students are currently using Python and Visual Basic but are encouraged to learn other languages for their project such as C#. The department is well resourced with 3 fully equipped computer suites, a class set of Micro:Bits, Raspberry Pi equipment and dismantled hardware for hands on learning as well as an experienced Network Manager and two qualified technicians who can assist the department. There is also a small cluster of computers which can run on their own network to aid A Level learning.

Purpose of role:

  • To secure excellent achievement and progress of all students and to ensure gaps are narrowed within the subject area.
  • To provide professional leadership and management of the subject team and support, develop and hold team members accountable for student progress.
  • To lead, manage and develop the curriculum in order to secure high quality teaching, the effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement of all students

Qualifications:

  • Qualified to at least degree level.
  • Qualified to teach and work in the UK.
  • Ability to teach all Key Stages.
  • Evidence of recent, relevant professional development.

The ideal candidate will need:

  • Experience of delivering consistently good to outstanding lessons to students of all ages and abilities.
  • Proven success of raising student achievement and ensuring students make good or better progress within subject area.
  • A confident use of data to inform intervention in terms of teaching and learning to raise achievement.
  • Experience of implementing behaviour management strategies consistently and effectively.
  • Experience of supporting students of all ages and abilities to make excellent progress and achieve impressive examination outcomes.
  • In-depth and up to date knowledge of the curriculum area and experience of having designed implemented and evaluated effective, imaginative and stimulating lessons and Schemes of Work.
