Sports Coach

A school in Wakefield are looking to permanently recruit a Sports Specialist to provide behaviour support and engagement to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs and who exhibit challenging behaviours.

Located close to Pinderfields Hospital, the school is easily accessible by public transport links. They are specifically seeking someone with a background in Sports or Physical Education, who can use sport as a means to engage and motivate students.

The successful applicant will have experience of effectively supporting challenging behaviour and will ideally possess a relevant degree or HND/foundation qualification in health science, sport coaching, sports management, or sports science.

The school is a Pupil Referral Unit that caters to Key Stage 3 students that have been excluded from mainstream education because of their behaviour or attendance. It currently hosts 55 pupils, but has space for up to 65. The successful applicant will predominantly be class based, supporting access to learning under the direction of the class teacher. However, you will regularly be required to take specific groups of students to set up sporting activities designed to re-engage and motivate pupils, with a particular focus on Physical Education.

The school uses positive praise and re-enforcement with students, focusing on students' individual strengths to improve self-esteem and encourage a positive attitude towards learning.

You will be able to build strong, working relationships with pupils, and you will be present at the beginning of the school day and during break and lunchtimes to interact with students and act as a positive role model.
