Job description

Sports Coach / Teaching Assistant (SEMH)
Location: Skelmersdale WN8
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Pay: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour

We are looking for a motivated and resilient Sports Coach to work within a Secondary SEMH provision in Skelmersdale. This role combines sports coaching with general Teaching Assistant responsibilities, supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.

The successful candidate will have a strong presence, excellent behaviour management skills, and a passion for using sport and physical activity as a tool to positively engage young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering structured sports and physical activity sessions.

  • Supporting pupils within the classroom as a general Teaching Assistant.

  • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour in line with school policy.

  • Building positive relationships with pupils to support engagement and progress.

  • Working with staff to help remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.

  • Strong behaviour management and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Background in sports coaching, youth work, or similar.

  • Ability to engage and motivate pupils with SEMH needs.

  • A proactive, consistent, and professional approach.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
