Sport Coach

This vacancy has now expired.

Job description

We are actively seeking a Sports Coach to work in one of our partnership secondary schools in Newport. The school are hoping to appoint someone with a sporting background to work with pupils that are struggling to engage during school time. A lot of the pupils who are disengaged often have a keen interest in sport and have worked well with sporty individuals in the past which is why they are looking to appoint a sports coach.

With so much disruption this academic year this school have really noticed the difference in some pupil’s behaviour and engagement since schools returning from the last lockdown. The schools have identified a number of pupils between year 7 and year 9 who will need support over the next coming months and likely into the new academic year.

Your role will entail supporting these pupils during lessons across different parts of the day/week. You will be given a timetable that is easy to follow so you know where to be at all times. When supporting these pupils, you must encourage them to engage during the lesson and discourage any disruptive behaviour and limit the distraction caused to other pupils. The schools aim is for you to find common ground with the pupils using sport to help form a positive relationship and trust.

This secondary school has impressive sports facilities including sports halls, gyms, football/rugby fields, basketball court etc. The school would like you to make good use of these facilities as a reward scheme for the pupils you support. You will set goals for the pupils you are support and if they achieve these you will be allocated time in a facility of the pupils choice as a reward for their good behaviour and engagement.
