Learning Resource Base Support Assistant | Full-Time | Newport | November 2025 Start
Do you have a passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional learning needs?
 We’re looking for a Learning Resource Base (LRB) Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Newport this November 2025.
You’ll work within a small, specialist provision supporting pupils with ASD, complex needs, challenging behaviour, and pica. This is a rewarding opportunity to help children feel safe, supported, and confident in their learning.
Role Overview
- 
Support children with autism, sensory needs, and communication difficulties. 
- 
Assist with daily routines, individual learning tasks, and small-group activities. 
- 
Use structured strategies such as PECS, TEACCH, and Makaton. 
- 
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and inclusion. 
- 
Maintain a safe, structured environment, with awareness of pupils’ sensory and medical needs. 
- 
Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and therapists to deliver consistent support. 
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- 
Experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs. 
- 
Calm, patient, and adaptable approach. 
- 
Good communication and teamwork skills. 
- 
Understanding of safeguarding and wellbeing. 
Desirable:
- 
Experience in an SEN or LRB setting. 
- 
Behaviour management training (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA). 
- 
Knowledge of ASD strategies or sensory needs (including pica). 
- 
Relevant qualifications in Education, SEN, or Childcare.
