Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and making a genuine difference every day? We are working with a welcoming and supportive SEN secondary school in Rochdale that is looking to appoint a dedicated Specialist Support Worker to join their growing team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, communication difficulties and learning disabilities.

The Role

As a Specialist Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. You will help create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment while building positive relationships that encourage confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Assisting with classroom engagement and learning activities
  • Supporting pupils with communication and social interaction
  • Encouraging positive routines and independence
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
  • Supporting sensory needs and brain breaks where required
  • Providing personal care support where needed

Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children or young people with SEN or SEMH needs
  • Is calm, patient and confident building relationships
  • Can remain positive and resilient in challenging situations
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Is open to personal care and behaviour support responsibilities
  • Wants to build a long-term career within education or support work

Experience from care, youth work, support work, coaching, residential care or similar backgrounds is highly transferable.

Travel & Location

The school is based in Rochdale and is easily accessible from Manchester, Oldham, Middleton and surrounding areas. It has good public transport links and nearby parking available for drivers.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
