SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary
Location: North Manchester

Are you passionate about supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health needs? We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming small primary school in North Manchester.
This role is ideal for someone who remains calm under pressure, understands behaviour as communication, and is confident supporting children who need consistency, structure, and emotional regulation support.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning and manage their emotions. You will play a vital role throughout the school day, including during moments of dysregulation, helping pupils develop positive behaviour and coping strategies in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Support pupils during challenging or dysregulated behaviour using positive and proactive strategies
- Promote emotional regulation, social skills, and independence
- Build trusting, positive relationships with pupils
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- Contribute to a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Essential Requirements
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Confidence supporting pupils during emotional or behavioural challenges
- Ability to work effectively on a 1:1 basis
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Full‑time availability and commitment to a long‑term role
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour, or a strong understanding of them
- Team Teach training, or willingness to undertake training

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
