Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant
Location: Skelmersdale
Contract Type: Full-time / Term Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Skelmersdale. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact by supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs in both classroom and one-to-one settings.
You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to help students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Promote positive behaviour and implement behaviour management strategies
- Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and social skills
- Assist the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
- Create a safe, nurturing and structured learning environment
- Build strong, supportive relationships with pupils
- Support students during challenging moments with patience and resilience
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is essential
- Experience within a school setting is highly desirable
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Patient, resilient and empathetic approach
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE, Level 2/3 TA, or similar) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
