SEMH Support Teaching Assistant

Location: BB2 (Burnley area)
Contract: Full-time / Term-time

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Support Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school setting in the BB2 area. This role involves supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them to engage with learning and develop positive behaviours within a structured and supportive environment.

You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent support, both in and out of the classroom, ensuring pupils feel safe, understood, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Support emotional regulation and implement behaviour strategies
  • Help deliver tailored learning activities and interventions
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Promote a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Resilient, patient and able to remain calm under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to set clear boundaries while maintaining a nurturing approach
  • Passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
