About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive school community in Lancashire. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access education successfully.
You will play a key role in helping students develop positive relationships, regulate their emotions, and engage meaningfully in learning activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
- Build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils
- Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
- Implement behaviour support plans and individual strategies
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEMH needs
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong behaviour management skills
- The ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Flexibility and a proactive attitude
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification)
- Experience in a school, PRU, or alternative provision setting
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or behaviour intervention strategies

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
