About the Role:
Our client, a vibrant and high-achieving secondary academy based in Croydon, is seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated Senior Science Technician to join their dedicated team from September 2025. As a Senior Science Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Science curriculum (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), ensuring that teaching staff and students benefit from a well-organised and safe practical learning environment. This role involves a blend of technical expertise, team management, and administrative coordination, making it ideal for someone with strong scientific knowledge and a proactive, collaborative approach.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain equipment and materials to support science lessons

  • Assist in practical lessons and support enrichment activities

  • Oversee the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials

  • Manage and coordinate the science technician team, including workload allocation and performance reviews

  • Conduct safety checks, maintain risk assessments, and ensure Health & Safety compliance

  • Keep accurate records and manage inventory for chemicals, resources, and equipment

  • Support teaching staff with practical demonstrations and layout setup in laboratories

  • Provide general administrative and resource support to the Science department

  • Maintain the welfare of plants and animals used for scientific study

  • Modify or create equipment as required from staff instructions or lesson needs

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or further training in science or laboratory practice

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations related to science education

  • Strong numeracy, literacy, organisational, and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Experience working in a laboratory or school science setting

  • Ability to manage and train other technicians

  • A flexible and proactive mindset with the capacity to adapt to changing priorities
