SEND Support Assistant – Visually Impaired Students
Location: Hull, East Yorkshire
Salary: £90 - £100 per day (depending on experience)
Job Type: Full-time, Term-time only

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a dedicated and adaptable SEND Support Assistant to work with visually impaired students at a secondary school in Hull. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact by supporting students with specialist needs to access and engage in their learning.

About the Role:
You will provide tailored support to students with visual impairments, helping them navigate both the academic and social aspects of school life. The role will involve close collaboration with the class teacher, the school's SEND team, and external specialists to implement individual learning plans and ensure accessibility in all aspects of education.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing one-to-one and in-class support to visually impaired students

  • Adapting learning materials into accessible formats (e.g., large print, braille, audio)

  • Supporting students with mobility and orientation around the school

  • Encouraging independence and confidence in learning

  • Liaising with teachers and specialist staff to monitor progress and adjust support plans

  • Promoting inclusion within the classroom and wider school community

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, especially visual impairments, is highly desirable

  • A patient, flexible and supportive approach

  • Ability to adapt resources and communication methods

  • A DBS registered with the update service or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel

  • Qualifications or training related to visual impairment (e.g., Braille, VI awareness) are an advantage but not essential
