Are you a Graduate looking to get into Teaching SEN Students?
Do you have a passion for learning and supporting people with additional needs?
I am working in partnership with a Specialist school in Central Bradford who are looking for Graduates to join them in September 2021 and start their Teacher Training Career. Working through Teaching Personnel you would be a part of our Future Teachers Programme which provides you with a paid year of school employment before commencing on the academic year long School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) course.
The Role:
Joining the school in September as a Teaching Assistant you will be expected to support students on a 1-1 or small group, assist the class teacher in delivering sessions and support school staff with activities such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rebound therapy and much more (training to be provided). You will gain experience across the whole school as required, working with students ages 3-19 years old, giving you a broad understanding of life in school. This first year is paid employment allowing you to gain experience working with children and young people with special educational needs, to decide whether teaching is definitely the right choice for you and for you to build your confidence and develop relationships with both staff and students.
The School:
Based in Central Bradford the school is easily accessible by public transport from Leeds and Halifax to the town centre, with regular buses taking 10 minutes to the school. The school is an OFSTED rated Good specialist school for children with severe and profound learning disabilities meaning all students have an individual EHCP that details their educational, health and social care needs. The school uses intensive interaction, objects of reference, touch cues, photos, Boardmaker symbols, Makaton signs, speech, the written word and low tech and high tech communication aids throughout learning. Speech and Language Therapists also support children's learning.
The Candidate:
- Must have a University Degree, ideally in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work etc. however other courses can be accepted.
- Have a desire to become a SEN Teacher with the willingness to learn and support students with additional needs.
- Be confident in supporting class teachers and other therapists and nurses in school when required.
- Be willing to undergo specific training courses that will be provided by ourselves and the school.
- Have a passion to motivate and engage students learning through a variety of techniques.
- Have a hands on approach when supporting students and be able to work on your own initiative.
- Be comfortable in providing personal care such as feeding and toileting, training will be provided.
