SEN Teaching Assistant

This vacancy has now expired.

Job description

ASC Specialist we need you to support numerous students across Doncaster as the schools start to reopen.

Anyone who is familiar with working with children or adults with Autism will know that routine is key, something which was outlined in a recent article posted by the National Autistic Society (NAS) with their head of campaigns stating that...

“Autistic people will use routine... as a way of dealing with a busy and chaotic world which they can’t always understand, or interpret, or cope with as non-autistic people can.” - Head of campaigns, National Autistic Society (NAS)

Many children will have had their world turned upside down as a result of lockdown struggling to understand and get a handle on the change of or lack of routine they now have. Learning will prove difficult for vast amounts of children across the UK especially those with SEN.

It is as a result of this that we are in search of a number of 1:1 support assistants to work in schools located in Doncaster as of both June and September when the schools reopen.

You would be ideal for this role if...

  • You have past experience supporting ASC students of a primary age before or similarly have worked with children or young adults working at primary level
  • You come from a social care or support worker background
  • You have past experience working in a SEN orientated school
  • You have some educational based experience or have Autistic children or family members that you’ve had first hand contact with

We are looking for calm and collected individuals who understand that patience is a necessity when working with individuals with Autism. You will have excellent all round organisational skills and the ability to plan both structured and engaging days for children who require rigid timetables.

Due to the nature of the role the majority of schools require support assistants who are comfortable working with children on a 1:1 basis.

If the above sounds of interest to you or you feel you have the relevant skill set in order to support this specific kind of learner, please contact your local Teaching Personnel branch today on 0114 241 3340.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
