SEND Support Assistant – (York)
Daily Rate: £90–£110/day dependent on experience and qualifications
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? We are looking for a dedicated and proactive SEND Support Assistant to join a specialist school in York.
The Role:
As a SEND Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping students access learning and daily activities. You’ll need to be adaptable, patient, and hands-on, with a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with a range of needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND.
- Moving & Handling support, including hoists, slings, and safe wheelchair transfers.
- Supporting pupils with personal care (feeding, toileting, changing).
- Assisting students with mobility and physical needs throughout the school day.
- Building positive relationships with pupils and staff, being both approachable and proactive.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working in SEND, care, or support roles (school or care setting).
- Moving & Handling training (or willingness to complete).
- Confident with wheelchair handling and physical support.
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- A strong sense of initiative – able to step in and support where needed.
- UK driving licence and access to transport (highly desirable due to location).
- Reliable, empathetic, and committed to making a difference.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
