About the Role
Teaching Personnel is recruiting committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistants to work within a highly challenging Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). This role offers a meaningful opportunity to positively impact the lives of young people who have faced significant barriers to education and engagement.
Successful candidates will work collaboratively with teaching and support staff to provide targeted support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils may present with challenging behaviour, and your role will be essential in helping them re-engage with learning, build trust, and develop effective coping strategies.
Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small-group support to enable pupils to access learning and regulate behaviour.

Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised behaviour support strategies.

Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

Foster positive relationships and support pupils’ emotional regulation and social development.

Work closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to deliver holistic support.

Support and participate in physical activities and sports sessions where appropriate.
Essential Requirements

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional in challenging situations.

A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
-
Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) or alternative education provisions.
-
Residential care, youth work, or mental health settings.
-
Supporting pupils with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
-
Background in sport, coaching, or mentoring (male candidates with these skills are particularly encouraged to apply).

Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
