SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Teaching Personnel has recently been working with a secondary academy school in W-Super-Mare. The role is to support a child with SEN (Special Educational Needs) on a full-time, longer-term basis to start immediately.
The School
This Academy is part of a larger, local academy chain. This means you will be supported by very successful academies that are based in the Bristol area and there will be more development opportunities for you.
The school was formally a school with a poor reputation. Since then, the school was knocked down and completely rebuilt. Having visited the school, what I love is the open layout where visitors can look into every classroom, staff room and other facilities. This is at the heart of its transparency policy. Bullying has plummeted and attendance has shot up. Achievement has massively improved and has been rated GOOD by OFSTED ever since.
The Role
You will be working closely with a boy in Year 7 who has ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition). He has very few behaviour problems but needs to work on his social skills and dealing with stress. He is a high achiever and has Asperger's Syndrome, meaning he is high functioning. The most important thing he needs is commitment and consistency. You will get to meet the pupil before committing to this role but once you do commit, it is essential that you continue this role until the end of the academic year.
This is a role to start as soon as possible but the school will wait for the right candidate. The school is full-time which means it is Monday to Friday 8:30 - 3:15.
The Candidate
The only essential is that you have SEN experience. Whether it is with adults or children, in or out of school, it is all relevant.
The ideal would be 1:1 experience with autism, however, it's more about the character and circumstances of the candidate that are more valuable. You will need to be patient, calm, reliable and consistent.
What's in it for you?
- The most rewarding job where you see what you put in making a difference
- 1:1 support with a lovely child where you can build relationship and trust
- Full-time and longer-term
- Competitive pay
If this job sounds right up your street, please get in touch immediately! I look forward to hearing from you.
