SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools | Sheffield & Barnsley

We are seeking caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across primary schools in Sheffield and Barnsley. This is a rewarding role where you’ll help pupils reach their potential and thrive in a supportive learning environment.

Role: SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools

Start Date: (immediate starts available

⏰ Contract: Full-time / Part-time | Term-time only | Long-term


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN
  • Assist the teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and speech & language
  • Help create an inclusive, nurturing environment that promotes confidence and independence
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies

✅ Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEN (in schools or care settings)
  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
