Teaching Personnel are seeking a confident, proactive and resilient Primary School SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Oldham. This rewarding role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with complex additional needs and helping them reach their full potential.
The school supports pupils aged 2 – 11 years old with a wide range of needs, including: Severe to Moderate Learning Difficulties (SLD – MLD), including needs associated with Speech, Language and Communication needs (SLCN).
The school is committed to providing a consistent, tailored and holistic approach to education, using adapted teaching styles to meet each pupil’s individual needs.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, support staff and families to ensure pupils receive nurturing, structured and personalised support. You will help create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment where pupils can develop academically, emotionally and socially, progressing at a pace that suits them.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with SEN needs.
- Delivering 1:1 and small group support, adapting activities to suit sensory, communication and cognitive needs
- Using communication tools such as PECS, visual timetables, sensory resources and AAC strategies
- Supporting pupils during regulated and dysregulated behaviours using positive behaviour and de-escalation approaches
- Assisting with the preparation of engaging learning resources and maintaining a safe, inclusive classroom environment
- Promoting independence, emotional wellbeing, confidence and essential life skills through positive relationships and consistent routines
- Providing personal care support, including toileting, feeding, mobility and changing where required
Requirements
Essential:
- Confident, proactive and able to use initiative when supporting pupils with complex needs
- Patient, adaptable and resilient with a genuine passion for SEN support
- Able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Willing to assist with personal care and mobility needs
- Available full-time and committed to a long-term placement
Desirable:
- Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
