SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
A supportive specialist provision in Stockton-on-Tees is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work with pupils who have a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), ADHD, communication difficulties and other learning barriers. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about helping children access learning, build confidence, and thrive both academically and personally.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, helping them regulate emotions, engage with learning and develop essential social and communication skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils with additional learning needs such as ASD, SEMH, ADHD and communication differences
- Providing 1:1 support and facilitating small-group intervention sessions
- Assisting the class teacher with adapted learning tasks and personalised support strategies
- Encouraging independence, resilience and positive behaviour
- Creating a calm, structured and nurturing environment
- Helping pupils develop social interaction, communication and emotional regulation skills
- Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may find school challenging
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or behavioural needs
- A patient, calm and resilient approach to behaviour and communication
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to follow guidance from teachers and external professionals
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing needs
- Confidence supporting learning inside and outside the classroom
- An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
