Learning Support Assistant
Job description
A client school in the Northumberland area NE61 is seeking a confident, supportive and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join our SEND team. This role involves working closely with students who have a range of additional needs, with a particular focus on supporting learning within English lessons up to GCSE level.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND, primarily within English.
- Assist learners in developing reading, writing and comprehension skills.
- Confidently support content up to GCSE level.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver personalised learning approaches.
- Encourage independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours.
- Adapt tasks and resources to suit individual learning needs.
- Support classroom management and contribute to a calm, supportive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Be confident supporting GCSE-level English (spoken and written).
- Have experience working with students with SEND (ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, communication needs, SEMH).
- Be patient, consistent and committed to student progress.
- Work effectively as part of a team and follow teacher guidance.
- Be proactive, enthusiastic and able to build positive relationships with learners.
Beneficial Backgrounds Include:
- Previous Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant roles
- English tutoring or literacy support experience
- Youth work or mentoring
- Health and Social Care
- Behaviour support roles
- Graduates with strong English skills
- Classroom experience within secondary or SEND environments

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
