Job description

A client school in the Northumberland area NE61 is seeking a confident, supportive and motivated Learning Support Assistant to join our SEND team. This role involves working closely with students who have a range of additional needs, with a particular focus on supporting learning within English lessons up to GCSE level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND, primarily within English.
  • Assist learners in developing reading, writing and comprehension skills.
  • Confidently support content up to GCSE level.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver personalised learning approaches.
  • Encourage independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours.
  • Adapt tasks and resources to suit individual learning needs.
  • Support classroom management and contribute to a calm, supportive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Be confident supporting GCSE-level English (spoken and written).
  • Have experience working with students with SEND (ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, communication needs, SEMH).
  • Be patient, consistent and committed to student progress.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and follow teacher guidance.
  • Be proactive, enthusiastic and able to build positive relationships with learners.

Beneficial Backgrounds Include:

  • Previous Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant roles
  • English tutoring or literacy support experience
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Health and Social Care
  • Behaviour support roles
  • Graduates with strong English skills
  • Classroom experience within secondary or SEND environments

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
