Job description

Teaching Assistants – SEN/SEMH Secondary School | Newcastle (NE4)

We are currently recruiting full-time Teaching Assistants to work within a specialist SEN/SEMH secondary school in Newcastle (NE4), starting the week commencing 8th June til the rest of the academic year with the potential to continue into the next.

This rewarding opportunity is ideal for candidates with backgrounds in the Armed Forces, security, sports coaching, youth work, residential care, or other roles that require resilience, strong communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with young people. Previous experience supporting students with additional needs is desirable but not essential.

The Role

  • Supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom
  • Building positive and trusting relationships to encourage engagement, confidence, and emotional regulation
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and wider support teams to promote student progress
  • Helping to maintain a calm, safe, and structured learning environment
  • Supporting students on both an academic and pastoral level
  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday

Requirements

  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Experience from the Armed Forces or other transferable professional backgrounds welcomed
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one

Pay

£92–£110 per day, depending on experience.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
