SEN Teaching Assistant

Salary: £14.30ph - £15.50ph (DOE)

Contract: Full time, Monday–Friday
Start Date: September 2026
Location: Halewood, L25

Are you a passionate, dedicated and nurturing Teaching Assistant looking to support a child who needs consistency, patience and a calm, compassionate presence? We’re recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Halewood (L25) for a full‑time SEN Teaching Assistant to work one‑to‑one with a non‑verbal pupil from September.

The Role

As the school’s 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support a non‑verbal primary-aged child with communication, routine and emotional regulation
  • Implement personalised learning and communication strategies (e.g. PECS, visuals, sensory tools)
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to adapt activities and promote progress
  • Create a safe, predictable and encouraging learning environment
  • Build a trusting, positive relationship with the child
  • Support with social interaction and life-skills development

You will be a key person in helping this pupil access the curriculum and feel fully included in school life.

Ideal Candidate

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience supporting children with SEN (particularly non-verbal communication or ASD)
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Strong behaviour support and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with pupils
  • Confidence using communication aids, visual timetables or sensory strategies
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new approaches
  • Reliability, consistency, and a genuine passion for helping children thrive

Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 TA, SEN training, autism training) are desirable but not essential.

Halewood (L25) is well connected across Liverpool, with:

  • Regular bus routes running from Liverpool city centre, Garston, Belle Vale, Woolton and surrounding areas
  • Halewood and Hunts Cross train stations close by, offering direct links to Liverpool Central, South Parkway, Kirkby and beyond
  • Easy access from major roads including Speke Boulevard and the M62 via Queens Drive

This makes the school accessible for candidates travelling from many parts of the city and wider Merseyside.
