Job description

Teaching Personnel is seeking a caring, dedicated and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support one of our specialist education partners in the WR11 area. This setting supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD and complex medical requirements.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will help pupils overcome barriers to learning and build essential skills in communication, emotional regulation, independence and confidence. You will work with learners who may have ASD, SEMH needs, ADHD and/or medical or physical needs requiring consistent, compassionate support.

Your role will involve working closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to create a calm, structured environment where pupils can flourish and make meaningful progress.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD, SEMH, ADHD and medical needs.
  • Assist with medical‑related care tasks where appropriate, following training and guidance.
  • Help deliver structured routines and tailored interventions that support emotional regulation and communication.
  • Use visual supports, sensory tools and adapted resources to meet individual learning styles and complex needs.
  • Support engagement with enriching experiences such as outdoor learning, sensory activities, life‑skills development and community-based opportunities.
  • Maintain a calm, compassionate presence when pupils experience anxiety, overwhelm or dysregulation.
  • Collaborate with staff and families to ensure consistent, holistic and child-centred support.
  • Promote independence, resilience, confidence and a positive mindset in pupils.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children with ASD, SEMH, ADHD and complex needs
  • Calm, patient and able to remain positive during challenging moments
  • A strong communicator who builds trust with pupils, families and staff
  • Compassionate, reflective and committed to inclusive practice
  • Flexible, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Requirements

  • Willing to complete a DBS check or able to provide an updated certificate
  • Two references required
  • Proof of right to work in the UK

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
