Sen Teaching Assistant
Job description
Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting a committed and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist primary SEN setting in Salford. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with complex needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing environment.
About the School
The school supports pupils aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism, Learning Difficulties, PMLD, CLDD, Sensory Processing Disorders, and complex neurological conditions. Many children are supported by CAMHS or are undergoing multi‑agency assessments. All pupils have an EHCP, or are in the assessment process.
Learning is delivered through highly personalised and adapted approaches to allow each child to develop at their own pace, both academically and emotionally.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, support staff, and families to provide consistent, compassionate care and targeted support. You will help to create a calm, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where children feel safe and valued.
Key Duties Include:
- Providing 1:1 and small‑group support based on individual EHCP targets
- Supporting pupils with PMLD, CLDD, Autism, and sensory needs
- Using PECS, visual timetables, sensory resources, and communication aids
- Supporting pupils during periods of dysregulation using positive behaviour and de‑escalation strategies
- Encouraging independence, emotional regulation, confidence, and life skills
- Maintaining a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding, mobility support, and changing where required
Essential Requirements:
- A proactive, patient, and resilient approach
- A genuine passion for supporting children with SEN
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Willingness to support personal care and mobility needs
- Full‑time availability with commitment to a long‑term role
Desirable Experience:
- Previous experience working with children with PMLD, CLDD, Autism, or sensory needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
