SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Full-Time (Term-Time Only)


Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? We are a welcoming and inclusive school looking for an enthusiastic and patient SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. You’ll support pupils with a range of needs including autism and speech & language difficulties.

Core Skills

  • Supporting children with a range of SEN (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, physical disabilities).

  • Adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.

  • Assisting with differentiated instruction in line with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support.

  • Implementing strategies to encourage engagement and positive behaviour.

  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress.

Behaviour & Emotional Support

  • Using de-escalation and positive behaviour management techniques.

  • Supporting children with emotional regulation and social interaction.

  • Encouraging confidence, independence, and resilience.

  • Building trusting, supportive relationships with pupils.

Communication Skills

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals.

  • Communicating effectively with parents and carers.

  • Using clear, accessible language and visual supports (PECS, Makaton, social stories).

  • Active listening and empathy when supporting pupil needs.

Practical & Classroom Support

  • Assisting with classroom organisation and resources.

  • Supporting pupils during transitions, break times, and off-site activities.

  • Helping with personal care and mobility needs where required.

  • Ensuring a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

Technical & Administrative

  • Knowledge of SEN strategies, interventions, and assistive technologies.

  • Using tracking tools to record attendance, progress, and behaviour.

Contract: Fixed term, full-time (8:30am – 3:30pm, Mon-Fri, term time only)
Salary: £90-£110 per day

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
